There is no better coach in the Big Ten than Ryan Day. The leader of the Ohio State football program has done great things since he’s taken over the team in 2019. In that time, he’s only lost a total of four games. He’s only lost a single Big Ten game as well.

Day is well known as one of the best coaches in the entire country. National awards have taken notice of that as well. Day is on the preseason watch list for the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award. He is one of five Big Ten coaches on the watch list.

The Ohio State football team is expected to contend for the national championship. If they do, Day has a really good shot at winning that award. The only thing holding the Buckeyes back from doing so is the defense, which should be improved this year from the last couple of years.

Ohio State is lucky to have someone as good at recruiting and developing offensive talent as Day is. They were lucky that they had him on staff after Urban Meyer left the program for medical reasons. Day has met every expectation put in front of him so far.

There is one more thing that he needs to put on his resume though. That is a national championship. If he can win a title, that catapults him to another level when it comes to college football coaches. He came close in 2020 when he lost to Alabama. This year might be his best shot.

Next. Three other programs Big Ten could poach. dark

This is well-deserved for Day, but it’s only a preseason watch list. He’d be the first one to tell you that he hasn’t accomplished anything yet this year. Check back in with him at the end of the season to see if he accomplished all of his goals.
