E.J. Liddell carried the Ohio State basketball team for long stretches last season. He was their best player and did everything for them. After the season, he declared for the NBA Draft and was a second-round pick by the New Orleans Pelicans last month.

Being a second-round pick, he was on the Summer League roster for the Pelicans. While he wasn’t great in his debut, he was slated to start last night alongside a number of other young players. Unfortunately, his night ended early after a serious-looking injury.

Liddell got hurt in the first quarter and was taken out of the game. He hurt his right knee. Doctors checked him out and he was cleared to return in the second half of the game. In the third quarter, he hurt his knee worse and had to be helped off the floor. He put no weight on the leg.

You can see the injury in the clip below. If you are squeamish, you might not want to check it out.

Liddell’s knee gives out as he is bent backward, as seen in the clip. The injury was so bad that the Pelicans got Liddell’s mother to come into the training room with him from the stands. He is scheduled to have an MRI sometime today to determine the severity of the injury.

The injury did not look good. I’m hoping that the injury isn’t too severe for the Ohio State basketball star. I’m hoping it’s something he can recover from quickly and not linger into the regular season. We’ll see what the results are later today.
