The Ohio State football program knows they are going to have two new opponents starting in 2024 in USC and UCLA. It was thought that the Big Ten would be adding more members to the conference soon. Now, it looks like they might miss out on some programs they had in mind.

The Big Ten is in a holding pattern while they wait for Notre Dame to make a decision on whether or not to join. Because of the conference deciding to wait on that decision before doing anything else, it has given the Big 12 a chance to swoop in and steal some teams.

It looks like there are six schools that are in deep discussions with the Big 12 about joining the conference. Two of those teams asked the Big Ten about membership and were told to wait. Those two schools are Oregon and Washington, which wanted to join as a pair.

As you can see, those other Pac 12 schools would have been targets of the Big Ten as well. Surprisingly, the Big 12 has now emerged as a conference that can poach other schools as opposed to being poached from. They are doing this for their own survival.

Is the Big Ten out of luck now? It remains to be seen. There are still a lot of things that need to be hashed out on all sides before things are totally settled. Things could start moving quickly though once that Notre Dame domino falls. July could be a very hectic month.
