Ohio State Football: How will the Rose Bowl work?
By Ryan Stano
With the addition of USC and UCLA to the Big Ten, the Ohio State football team now has two more rivals to face off in the battle for the conference title. Now it looks like the Pac 12 is going to lose even more members. With that being the case, what is going to happen with the Rose Bowl?
The Rose Bowl has been one of the premier bowl games for decades. It has pitted the Big Ten and Pac 12 champions against each other in the years where it hasn’t been a semifinal site for the College Football Playoff. It is perhaps the bowl game with the greatest amount of tradition.
Even after USC and UCLA left for the Big Ten, the Pac 12 came out and said they are looking to expand, not lose any more members. But that doesn’t seem feasible. It seems that the rest of the conference is going to dissolve, at least with the current members in the conference.
If that happens, what will happen to the Rose Bowl? The Rose Bowl is one of the most powerful bowl games in the country. They can’t be happy about the conference realignment that has already started. They were taken completely by surprise.
Will the Rose Bowl still be a contest between the Big Ten and the Pac 12? Or will it just be relegated to a normal New Year’s Six Bowl Game? Only time will tell with how many other teams jump ship from the Pac 12? If it’s a conference in shambles, the Rose Bowl will have no choice but to try and find a new relationship.
I’m sure we’ll get a better idea of what’s going to happen with the Big Ten adding more programs. Then we’ll know what the Rose Bowl’s fate is.
