The Ohio State basketball team will have a tougher than usual non-conference schedule this year. We know that Chris Holtmann likes to challenge his team before the start of Big Ten play, which I think is a good thing. Now, we have the dates for the non-conference games for this year.

The Buckeyes will be playing in the Maui Invitational this year. They could see more than one tough opponent in that tournament. The other teams in that are Louisville, Arkansas, San Diego State, Creighton, Arizona, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech.

We also knew earlier that the Ohio State basketball team gets a rematch with Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium. That will be their first game after the Maui on November 30th. The other marquee non-conference matchup is the CBS Sports Classic, which they had to pull out of last year due to COVID.

As far as the other games go, the Buckeyes have the usual suspect of cupcakes to round out the non-conference slate. They play Robert Morris to start the season on November 7th. They will also play Alabama A&M, Charleston Southern, Eastern Illinois, St. Frances PA, and Maine.

I like this schedule for the Buckeyes. They need a nice mix of easy games and hard ones to prepare this young team for the rigors of the Big Ten Conference. This is going to be a big year for the program. I’m really interested to see what this crop of talented freshmen can do.

I think the program needs a boost this year to get the fans excited about the potential of the team again. This is going to be a big year for everyone involved.
