The recruiting class of 2021 was the best recruiting class in Ohio State football history. In that year, they were the second-best recruiting class in the country. The Buckeyes have never had a recruiting class finish number one since they started measuring recruiting rankings around 2006.

Could this be the year that changes? After landing Kayin Lee yesterday, the Buckeyes now have the best recruiting class in the country for the 2023 cycle. They lead Notre Dame by a few points. The question is whether or not they can hang onto that ranking by the end of the cycle.

Right now, the Ohio State football program has 14 commits for the 2023 class. That leaves them plenty of room for more prospects to fill out the remainder of the class. They are finalists on plenty of prospects’ lists that will be making commitments soon as well.

If Ryan Day can hold onto this ranking, this would be a huge moment for him in his football coaching career. He would have the distinction of being the coach that delivered the best recruiting class in program history. That’s a big deal considering who some of the other coaches before him were.

Notre Dame has quite a few irons in the fire as well, so this battle is far from over. They are in the mix for several top prospects as well. The winner on the field on September 3rd might help sway some of these prospects to choose that same winner too.
