Another Ohio State Football player gets paid big money
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has a reputation for developing players for success in the NFL. Players like Ezekiel Elliott, Michael Thomas, Joey Bosa, and Denzel Ward have all signed market-setting extension deals since leaving the Buckeyes for the NFL.
You can add one more player to the list of Buckeyes who have signed big extensions. While this isn’t a market-setting deal, it’s still pretty large. That deal goes to Terry McLaurin who reached an agreement on an extension with the Washington Commanders today.
The extension pays McLaurin $71 million over three years, with a $28 million signing bonus. That’s a pretty large extension for any player to get, no matter what position they play. McLaurin wanted an extension badly and was rewarded with one commensurate with the numbers he’s been putting up.
McLaurin can now put all of this behind him and just worry about playing football, which is something he loves to do. It also goes to show that once again, if you want to get paid the big bucks in the NFL, you play for the Ohio State football program.
The trio of receivers that just committed to the Buckeyes are certainly taking notice of this deal as well. McLaurin wasn’t nearly of a highly-touted recruit as any of those guys are. They should all have their eyes on the possibility of making this kind of money once they reach the NFL.
This is just another recruitment tool that Ryan Day will use for a number of recruits he is trying to land in upcoming recruiting classes. The Buckeyes are able to add McLaurin’s name to a long list of former players who have seen success at the next level.
McLaurin won’t be the last Buckeye to sign a monster extension. Nick Bosa is the next one on deck for that.
