Ohio State Football: Pressure creates diamonds
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program is one of the premier programs in all of college football. The past success, along with the rabidness of the fanbase, makes the head coaching position for the Buckeyes one of the most pressure-packed jobs out there.
But all of that pressure leads to good things for this program. The Buckeyes have competed in the College Football Playoff five times since it started in 2014. They have a national championship in that span too, winning the first-ever College Football Playoff.
Ryan Day has been getting a taste of the pressure that comes with being the leader of the program. He has been doing a great job of dealing with it so far. But the pressure may be bigger this season than any other season he’s had to deal with being a football coach.
That’s because the Ohio State football team has the talent to win a national championship this year. They have perhaps the best offense in the entire country and a defense that should be much improved. Day will be under pressure to get this squad to at least the CFP.
The pressure starts from the very first game when Notre Dame comes to town for the opener. They aren’t quite as talented as the Buckeyes, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t put up a fight. The Fighting Irish are certainly more than capable of upsetting Ohio State in Week 1.
Ohio State is really good almost every year. Pressure is something that players on this team are used to dealing with. I expect Day and his staff to have a plan in place to deal with the pressure for themselves, as well as the players. They should be ready for every team’s best shot in every game they play.
