Ohio State basketball: Aaron Craft is a Hall of Famer
By Ryan Stano
By far, one of the most beloved Ohio State basketball players in recent memory is Aaron Craft. The crowd loved his hard-nosed defense, his rosy cheeks, and his full-out effort on every play. Every Buckeye fan loved his annoyingness because he was ours.
Now, Craft is a Hall of Famer. It was announced that Craft will be inducted into the Ohio State Hall of Fame in 2022. The Buckeyes always seemed to play better with Craft on the court than they did with him on the bench despite his limited shooting abilities, especially from outside.
Over the course of his career, Craft averaged 8.9 points per game, 4.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game. He shot 46% from the field and 33% from three. His offense wasn’t his calling card. What was, was his defense. He led the Big Ten in steals three years in a row.
Craft is also the career leader in steals in the Big Ten. In terms of defensive players, Craft is one of the best to ever do it in Big Ten history. It makes sense that the Ohio State basketball product would get inducted into the Buckeyes’ Hall of Fame. He deserves it.
Craft will always be one of the most beloved Buckeyes in history. Yea, the offensive game was never quite there. It doesn’t matter though. His defense has set a standard for every other point guard in the Big Ten though. That’s who guys will get compared to now.
It’s good for Craft to get one last accolade for his basketball career. Now he’s working towards much more fulfilling work in becoming a doctor.
