Ohio State Football: Three players who will massively improve
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team needs an improved defensive line
Taron Vincent is another guy that was highly regarded as a recruit. He was also a former five-star guy that hasn’t been able to make the kind of impact that was expected of him because of injuries. Now, he’s fully healthy and looking to make a statement up front.
The son of NFL-great Troy Vincent, Taron was expected to make a big impact on the defensive line when he came in. Unfortunately, injuries have been a part of his story as well. Over the past three years, he has only recorded a total of 35 tackles. Worse than that, he only has 2 total sacks.
Now a senior, Vincent is trying to play a bigger role on the defensive line. He has the talent to be a real force up front. The question is whether or not he can stay healthy enough to get on the field. The defensive line is looking for a playmaker. Vincent is hoping he can be that guy.
The Buckeyes don’t really have an impact defensive tackle on the roster right now. No one has shown the ability to consistently make big plays. Many within the program hope that Vincent can be that guy and help disrupt the running lanes up the middle. That was an issue for this team last year.
If Vincent is able to make an impact, this team becomes much harder to beat. He isn’t going to get a ton of sacks, but plugging up holes on the inside to stop the run is something he can definitely do. He just needs to be healthy enough to do it.
The last guy on this list was still recovering from an injury during the first part of last year and still played pretty well. Now fully healthy, he should be much better.
