The Ohio State football team had been lacking five-star recruits in their 2023 recruiting class. In doing so, their recruiting ranking kept taking a hit. That was unlikely to keep happening. Now, their ranking is certainly going to keep going higher after their commitment today.

That commitment is Carnell Tate, a five-star wide receiver from Florida. He is currently ranked as the third-best receiver in the country and the 28th recruit overall. Tate is now the latest high-profile recruit to decide to join the Ohio State football program.

The Buckeyes already have the best receiver room in the country. After they lose Jaxon Smith-Njigba once this season is over, that could still be the case. It’s not often you lose a first-round wide receiver and the room is still considered the best room in the country.

That could be the case depending on how well Emeka Egbuka, Julian Fleming, and Marvin Harrison Jr. play in 2022. Tate is a five-star recruit, but he still probably won’t crack the rotation as a true freshman except for games in which the Buckeyes are blowing out their opponents.

Tate chose the Buckeyes over Georgia, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Alabama. Truth be told, it really came down to the Buckeyes and the Fighting Irish. This is the first of two wins the Buckeyes are hoping to get over Notre Dame as these two meet in the season opener.

Brian Hartline continues to show his value as a recruiter. He very well might be the best recruiter in the country when it comes to assistant coaches. Ohio State has the best offense in the country because they get top talent like Tate. Tate is just the next in a long line of great receivers to see the value of attending Ohio State.
