Offseason mode is fully activated for the Ohio State basketball team as we are in the thick of preparation for the 2022-23 basketball season. Throughout the offseason, we sit and wait to see who and where the team will be playing next season.

Well, the Buckeyes announced their Big Ten opponents for next season last Thursday. Let’s look at what opponent will be the most challenging for Ohio State in Big Ten play.

This is no “push-over” of Big Ten opponents. The Buckeyes are going to have to fight and crawl their way to the finish line once Big Ten play starts.

They have tough home and aways with Michigan State, Purdue, Illinois, and Iowa. I think they luck out by not having to travel to Wisconsin and just get the Badgers at home this season. However, they will have to travel to arguably two of the most difficult atmospheres in all of college basketball for just away games with Indiana and Michigan.

The toughest test for the Buckeyes against these Big Ten opponents will be on their trip to Bloomington. Assembly Hall is one of the best atmospheres in all of college basketball, and it’s a historic venue with a great fanbase. With the return of Trayce Jackson-Davis, it makes the Hoosiers the favorite in the Big Ten heading into the upcoming season. This will make Assembly Hall even more difficult to play in.

Ohio State is going to be tested a lot during Big Ten play for who their opponents are and where they’re playing them. We’re still waiting for the non-conference opponents to be announced, but we do know that the Buckeyes will be playing the potential #1 team in the country next year in the National Runner-up, North Carolina Tar Heels, in the CBS Sports Classic.

I have high hopes for this Ohio State basketball team next season. I think the type of players they have brought in with their skillsets will help them a lot in Big Ten play. If they build nice chemistry on the floor by the time they get to Big Ten play, I think they’ll be perfectly fine.
