Marcus Freeman takes another shot at Ohio State Football
By Ryan Stano
It seems as though new Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman loves saying stuff for recruiting clout. That much was clear after he took a shot at the Ohio State football program right after getting the job. Apparently, the former Buckeye isn’t done taking shots at his alma mater.
The former Buckeye linebacker apparently doesn’t think that Ohio State takes classroom work seriously, which we know isn’t true. In an interview with CBS Sports, Freeman had this to say about the differences between Ohio State’s academics and Notre Dame’s.
"“You don’t go to class [at places like that]?” Freeman said rhetorically. “OK, take some online classes, show up for your appointments. At Notre Dame, you’re forced every day to go to class.”"
That’s just flat out not true. I know every Ohio State player goes to class when they need to and studies hard to get their degree. We hear this every year from salty TTUN fans. “Academics matter more here, that’s why we suck!”. That’s what TTUN fans say when Ohio State beats them every year.
It seems as though Freeman is trying to build in an excuse three months before he travels to the Shoe in case the Fighting Irish lose. The Ohio State football team will certainly be favored in that game, and they should be. They are the better team.
I don’t know why Freeman is already trying to build excuses for his program before he’s even coached a regular-season game with the program. Maybe he thinks this will get him more recruits. I can’t say that will be the case with NIL and NFL dreams being the only thing that matters to 99% of the top recruits.
This will certainly add more fuel to the fire when Ohio State welcomes Notre Dame on the first Saturday in September.
