Former Ohio State Football player in contract dispute
By Ryan Stano
The NFL is flush with talent from the Ohio State football program. Some of the best players in the entire league are Buckeyes. Ohio State has produced great players on both sides of the ball, including one former Buckeye who is now in a contract dispute with his current team.
That player is wide receiver Terry McLaurin. McLaurin has shown to be an incredibly productive NFL player despite being just a third-round pick back in 2019. After being just a three-star recruit out of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, he scored 11 receiving touchdowns as a senior in 2018.
McLaurin went to the Washington Commanders and immediately proved to be their number one option in the passing game. Despite having some inept quarterback play, McLaurin has 3,090 and 16 touchdowns in his first three years as an NFL player.
Now, McLaurin wants a contract extension that pays him as a top guy. He wants similar money to what A.J. Brown just got after he was traded to the Eagles. To emphasize his point, he is now skipping mandatory minicamp this week as he seeks that new deal.
I wouldn’t be shocked if McLaurin got traded. Washington’s management and ownership are a complete mess, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them get rid of a good player instead of paying him. If they were smart though, they would pay him like the number one receiver that he is.
McLaurin’s numbers would be even better had the Commanders given him a competent quarterback to throw to him at any point in the last three years. Now, they’ve angered the best young star that they have on the offensive side of the ball.
Ultimately, I do think a deal gets done. I think McLaurin does stay in Washington. He’s too good to let walk.
