Ohio State Football: Top of the Big Ten is strong
By Ryan Stano
For the last few years, the Ohio State football team has been the toast of the Big Ten Conference. They had won it four straight years before TTUN took it away from them last year. Last year, the top of the Big Ten conference had some strong teams and that will be the case again this year.
Ohio State is still the favorite to win the conference and the favorite to make it to the College Football Playoff from this conference. Even so, there are still some good teams in the Big Ten that will make life harder than you think for the Buckeyes at the end of the year.
TTUN is going to be their biggest challenger. They lost their best player in Aidan Hutchison and have quarterback questions, but they are still going to be pretty good. This team finally has some confidence that they can win big games under Jim Harbaugh and that makes them dangerous.
Penn State is going to be better this year as well. After faltering to a disappointing 7-6 record in 2021 and a 4-5 record in 2020, they should be better this year after a couple of good recruiting classes. They’re not elite, but still should be a pretty decent team.
Michigan State was really good last season until losing to both Ohio State and TTUN towards the end of the season. While they lost Kenneth Walker, they still have quarterback Payton Thorne leading their passing attack. They should be pretty good again this year.
Wisconsin can be dangerous if Graham Mertz actually takes a step this season. If he turns out to be good, the Badgers become very dangerous because they always have a good running game and they also play pretty solid defense. Look out for the Badgers in September too.
The top of the Big Ten is as strong as any conference in the country. Hopefully, the Ohio State football team can navigate its way through it.
