Ohio State basketball gets back together

The Ohio State basketball team had another rough finish this past year. For the fifth straight season, the Buckeyes failed to reach the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament. That set off their two best players to leave for the NBA and a lot of their roster going elsewhere.

Now the Buckeyes are back together for the first time this Summer. Everyone is on campus, including the members of their recruiting class which is a top-five class. They also have three new transfers that they have brought in to improve the roster too.

With all of the moves made, it’s time to see how the roster fits together. The roster gets to do some workouts together this Summer and build some chemistry. It also gives the coaching staff a chance to evaluate who fits well together and figure out some lineup combinations.

I still don’t know what the starting lineup will be once the season starts. That’s part of why these Summer workouts are so valuable. The coaches can see what works and what doesn’t, while also helping the players get better before they really start practicing hard.

I don’t think this team has a very high ceiling. I also don’t know how good these freshmen are. Maybe they come in and light the world on fire. Maybe they stink. I don’t know. My inclination is that it’s somewhere in the middle and that the Ohio State basketball team will only get back to the first round of March Madness.

There’s still a lot of time between now and the start of the season. It’s good to see these guys back together and getting in work though. This team has talent on it and it has a chance to be better than last year’s team if some of these freshmen pan out immediately.
