The Ohio State football program has had some big non-conference matchups with some of the best programs in all of college football. Teams like Texas, Virginia Tech, USC, and Oregon have all come into the Shoe. Those are some of the biggest brand names in the country.

All of those teams came into the shoe and beat the Buckeyes though. None of them were favored to do so, except maybe USC, and they were able come in and beat Ohio State. It’s an unsettling feeling that Ohio State hasn’t been able to win a non-conference game at home against a big-time opponent.

This even happened as recently as last season when the Ducks came in and beat the Buckeyes. Notre Dame is the opponent that is coming into town this year. The opener against the Fighting Irish is the next chance for Ohio State to buck this ugly trend.

I have to be honest, this is a very unsettling trend that makes me more nervous for the opening night game. The Buckeyes are the better team and should be able to beat the Fighting Irish. They have the better offense, and they are the more explosive team.

The issue is going to be on defense. The Ohio State football program has a brand new system that they are trying to implement to make the team better. I don’t have doubts that it will, but it will be interesting to see if they can make it better in time for the opener.

I like playing hard teams like this in non-conference games. Hopefully, the Buckeyes can actually win this one.
