The Ohio State football program decided to put turf in Ohio Stadium back in 2007. That was the first year that they used it. It has been replaced before but was in real bad shape in 2020. That was despite the fact that there were fewer games played on it than ever before.

2021 saw more slippages on the turf than I can remember. Both Ohio State football players and opponents were having trouble with their footing during games. It was a noticeable issue and Gene Smith said they were going to replace the turf, even though it was supposed to last longer.

That day is finally here. Smith took a picture of a bare Ohio Stadium as the turf was in the process of getting replaced and put it on social media.

The turf needed replaced very badly. Apart from players slipping on the field, which is the most important issue, it just looked worn out. It needed a facelift. Finally, that’s being done. This will help both the Buckeyes and their opponents play more safely on the field.

Ohio State should have done this a few years ago. Hopefully, this new turf lasts longer than the old one did. Personally, I wish they’d never used turf and just had the natural grass. I know that’s never going to happen, but a man can dream.

I can’t wait to see the Buckeyes burning up this new turf with their blazing speed in the Fall!
