Ohio State football: The one upset alert game
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team should be favored in every game that they play this season. The only game that they have a chance to not be favored in is the game at Penn State in late October. There’s a reason for that; Ohio State is going to be really good this year.
But no matter how good teams are projected to be, there is always at least one game that has the potential for a loss on the schedule. That’s the case for the Buckeyes this year. There’s one specific game I have my eye on that has some upset potential.
No, it’s not The Game. It’s not even the Penn State game. The game I’m talking about is the Wisconsin game. It is the fourth home game in the Buckeyes’ five-game home stand to start the season. Even though it will be a home game, Ohio State should have their guard up.
Wisconsin has been the most consistent Big Ten West program over the last ten or so years. They always have a great offensive line and a solid running game. That will be the same this year. Those are the types of teams that gave Ohio State some issues last year, especially on the defensive end.
If this new defense doesn’t work like it should, Wisconsin could sneak up and bite the Buckeyes. Ohio State’s offense is good enough to beat Notre Dame even if the offense isn’t good because Notre Dame doesn’t have the ball-control offense that the Badgers do.
Do I expect the Ohio State football team to lose to Wisconsin? No. But I do think it can happen if Jim Knowles’ new defense isn’t being run properly yet. The number of possessions they’d get on offense would concern me.
