The Ohio State football team starts their season with one of the marquee games of the entire season. They play Notre Dame for the first time in the regular season since the 1990s. This matchup pits two of the most storied programs in all of college football against each other.

Not only that but there is an excellent chance that both teams are ranked in the top 5 when they play on September 3rd. It’s also a night game, so the entire country will have their eyes on the game. Ryan Day understands the importance of the game.

Day told the media recently that the Buckeyes will be ready for Notre Dame once September rolls around. He said that no stone will go unturned when it comes to preparing for them. That’s going to need to be the case because the Fighting Irish are no joke.

This game has the potential to be one of the most fun games that is played all season long, and it’s the opener. Day knows that this game will set the tone for the rest of the season for both teams. A win here is a huge boost to each team’s College Football Playoff chances.

Can the Ohio State football program make the CFP even with a loss in this game? Sure. But a win also affords them a slip up once Big Ten play rolls around. A strong non-conference win could help boost their resume if they were to lose to someone like Wisconsin or Penn State.

We don’t know all of the roster decisions yet for both teams, but I still fully expect the Buckeyes to win this game as of right now. Based on what they have returning on offense, it should be too much for Notre Dame to deal with. But a lot can change in three months.
