Ohio State Football: Getting rid of divisions would be good for OSU
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has been the winner of the Big Ten the majority of the last few years. Last year was the first time they hadn’t played for the Big Ten title since 2016, and that year they still made the College Football Playoff. They’ve dominated the conference.
Once divisions are abolished, the Buckeyes’ dominance over the Big Ten should only continue. Ohio State hasn’t had too much trouble with the representatives out of the West so far, and most of the time the best and second-best teams in the conference have been in the East.
While Ohio State’s final game might be a little harder, that doesn’t mean that they can’t beat whatever team they would face. Eliminating divisions means that the top two teams in the conference would play in the Big Ten Championship Game, regardless of division.
Even then, the Buckeyes still wouldn’t have too many issues in my opinion. They have the best recruiting in the Big Ten and have the most talented roster in the conference too. Just playing a better opponent at the end of the year just helps their CFP case in case they lose a game.
The Ohio State football program probably won’t stay at the top of the conference forever. That’s something that the Buckeyes are trying to hold off for as long as possible. We’ll see if they are able to keep the other teams at bay. The way they have been recruiting, they should be able to for a few more years.
