Ohio State Football: Devin Brown has competition

The Ohio State football team doesn’t have any competition for the starting quarterback position this year. C.J. Stroud is one of the best quarterbacks in the country and will be in contention for the number one overall pick in the NFL Draft next season.

After this year though, the quarterback job will be open for business. Kyle McCord will likely get the job and has a chance to stay for two full years. If he does, then Devin Brown is going to have some competition for the quarterback job in 2024 and 2025.

That’s because Dylan Raiola comes in as a freshman. There’s a very good chance that by the time the 2024 cycle is done, the Buckeye commit will be the number one quarterback in the country. In fact, there is a chance he will be the number one recruit overall in the country at that point.

If that’s the case, Brown, who is a true freshman this year, will have his work cut out for him. Brown was the number one quarterback recruit in the country this past season based on some recruiting services. He’s pretty darn good in his own right.

Brown is going to be a really good quarterback at some point. Whoever loses the quarterback battle in a couple of years though will probably transfer out. That’s just the nature of college athletics at this point. Raiola or Brown will go somewhere else to start.

That’s a long ways a way though. There is still plenty of football to be played before then and plenty of practices for both Brown and Raiola, once he gets to campus, to impress the coaches.
