Ohio State Football: The three best moments of the 2021 season
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State hadn’t played Purdue since the infamous upset of 2018 in West Lafayette that ended any chance the Buckeyes had of making the College Football Playoff. I was there for that game, and it was cold and windy. Ohio State got beaten right from the jump, although there was a Buckeye record set in that game.
There was also a Buckeye record set in this game good. Garrett Wilson had himself a day in a revenge beating of the Boilermakers. Ohio State won the game 59-31 behind an incredible offensive effort. Specifically, Wilson stole the show with this record-setting performance.
No Buckeye receiver had scored three touchdowns and one rushing touchdown before this game. Wilson did that, catching 10 passes for 126 yards as well. His one rushing touchdown came on a 51-yard scamper that left everyone behind him in the dust. He was by far the best player on the field that night.
It was a night that showcased just how good Wilson is. He was wide open all day because he was so good at getting separation from defensive backs. He also showed off his route tree and his dangerousness once he gets the ball in open space.
Wilson went on to be a first-round pick late last month. This was clearly his best performance of the 2021 season. It was also sweet to see him have this performance against a team that historically has given the Buckeyes fits for whatever reason.
The next moment on this list happened just a week later at the Shoe.
