The Ohio State football program has been the dominant program in the Big Ten for the last 20 or so years. They have won more Big Ten Championships than any other program. Before last year, they had won four-straight Big Ten titles. They’ve been a monster.

A large reason for being so good for so long is how good the Buckeyes have been at recruiting. Their recruiting has consistently been the best in the conference. If you look at the rankings for the last few seasons, you understand why Ohio State has so much talent.

For the 2022 season, the Buckeyes were ranked 4th nationally. The next closest Big Ten team was Penn State at 8th. The year before that, Ohio State was at 2nd. TTUN was next closest at 13th. In 2020, Ohio State was 5th and TTUN was 10th. You get the idea.

Ohio State’s sustained success on the recruiting trail has led to a large amount of the success that they’ve had on the field. It’s a lot easier to win games when you have talented players on the field that are better than the players on the opposite side of you.

Recruiting isn’t everything of course. Coaching certainly matters too. But good recruiting gets you in a position where everything doesn’t have to rely on coaching. The Ohio State football program isn’t stopping with their elite recruiting anytime soon either.

Right now, the Buckeyes sit 4th in the country for the 2023 class. That is one spot behind Penn State, but not by very many points. I have no doubt that by the end of the cycle the Buckeyes will have the highest-ranked recruiting class in the Big Ten Conference.

dark. Next. Don't forget OSU players are just kids

Unless the other Big Ten teams step it up, Ohio State is going to be in the mix to win the conference every single year.
