Like every year under Ryan Day, the Ohio State football team is poised to have a really good team in 2022. They will be one of the favorites to win the Big Ten and make the College Football Playoff. They will also start the season ranked highly in the preseason polls.

If you look at how teams finished last year and evaluate what each team lost, how high will the Buckeyes be when the polls come out in August? Let’s go down the list of teams and see where I think the Buckeyes could find themselves slotted before the season.

The preseason number one team will either be Alabama or Georgia. I tend to lean towards Bama because Georgia lost a ton of players, specifically on their great defense. Georgia will still likely be ranked second though since they are the defending national champions.

I see the Ohio State football team appearing just after them in the polls. I think third is a reasonable spot to be in considering what we saw from them in the Rose Bowl and the changes that they made on the defense side of the ball in terms of the staff. Ohio State is going to be really good.

I also think that Ohio State’s first opponent of the season, Notre Dame, will be ranked fourth. It could be an epic non-conference showdown to start the season in the Shoe. My guess is that either TTUN or Oklahoma will round out the top five to start the year.

The preseason polls just give us a starting point of how good we think a team is, but it ultimately doesn’t matter. The real polls start being made in October when the CFP committee starts releasing their rankings. Plenty of teams have a chance to make a statement then.
