Ohio State Football player who can improve draft stock the most
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program is a draft factory. NFL teams always look at Buckeyes when draft time rolls around because they know that these guys are ready to make an impact right away. They are coached well and have top-tier talent as well.
The same will be said for next year’s Draft. There will be several Ohio State football players that will be drafted. Heck, the Buckeyes might end up putting in the number one overall pick. There’s one player more than the others who could improve their draft stock with a good year this year though.
That player is defensive end Zach Harrison. Harrison decided to return for his senior year after a disappointing junior campaign. Harrison is a former five-star recruit that hasn’t had the consistent play that many thought he was going to. His numbers just haven’t been very strong.
Through three years at Ohio State, he only has 7.5 sacks. He just hasn’t been a disruptive force in the backfield. Now he has a chance to show teams that he can be that dynamic force in a new defense where he will be the defensive end who lines up consistently down.
Harrison would need a big year, but he could still end up contending for a first-round selection. If he puts up double-digit sacks this season, that might push him into that conversation. If he did do that this season, it would mean he’s finally realized the potential that he had coming out of high school.
Do I think that will happen? No. We have three years of evidence that says otherwise. I think he is what he is at this point. Even so, I can’t rule it out. Harrison has the physical tools to do it and has the best defensive line teacher in the country as his coach. It could still happen.
Harrison could either push his stock to new heights or prove to everyone that he’s a second-day pick.
