Ohio State Football: Justin Frye doing great recruiting
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has several new coaches on staff this season. One of those new coaches is Offensive Line Coach Justin Frye. Frye was brought in after Ryan Day decided to part ways with Greg Studrawa in the offseason. Frye came over from UCLA and has already made an impact.
Frye has shown to be able to make a difference on the recruiting trail already. Of the ten commitments the Buckeyes have so far in their 2023 class, three of them are offensive linemen, including the top recruit so far of those commitments.
Frye has also clearly made it a point to recruit in the state of Ohio. All three of the offensive line commits are from inside the state. He knows that there is a lot of talent in the state and he wants to keep those kids here. So far, he’s done a good job of that early in his Ohio State football tenure.
The Buckeyes are hoping to see some improved play on the field as well from the offensive line. That unit struggled in run blocking when the competition stepped up last season. Frye is looking to change that this season and give running back TreVeyon Henderson some easier holes to run through.
Ohio State should be able to get recruits from wherever they want at any position with how successful of a program they are. Frye showed that in the 2022 class when he was able to keep Carson Hinzman in the class even after Stud was fired. Hinzman is from Wisconsin and offensive linemen rarely leave that state.
Hopefully, the Buckeyes can keep getting top talent up front from whatever state they want. As long as Frye shows that the offensive line can keep getting better on the field, recruiting them shouldn’t be a huge issue.
