The Ohio State basketball team needs to make some progress this year. We’ve talked about it at length here on Scarlet and Game about the fact that Chris Holtmann needs to get his squad to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament this year or he could be gone.

Zed Key is a player that he is going to have to lean on heavily to accomplish that. Key is now the best player that the Buckeyes have returning to their roster from a year ago. He showed some really strong flashes of play last year as a starter for the first time.

Key does need to increase his range as a shooter though and he knows that. It’s something he’s working hard on this offseason. He showed off the progress that he’s been making in that endeavor on social media.

What we’ve seen from Key is a willingness to work and get better every year. That’s very important for the Buckeyes. Key is extremely coachable and a likable guy. If he can get a midrange game, that would significantly help this Ohio State basketball team.

I know I mentioned that he should extend his range to the three-point line, but maybe he’s not quite ready for that. He’s been shown on video working on that too, so maybe it’s just not quite as refined right now as this new midrange game is.

Next. Which OSU transfer will make the biggest impact?. dark

Either way, Key is a very valuable part of this team and will be leaned on heavily this year. He could end up playing the most or second-most minutes on the team this year if he can stay out of foul trouble. That’s how much the Buckeyes need him.
