The Ohio State football team does have several players on the team making money from NIL deals. They are of various amounts and for endorsing different things. One thing these players won’t have to worry about is getting penalized by the NCAA.

The NCAA has enacted new guidelines on how to legislate NIL deals. They also announced that they will be retroactively punishing teams and programs that have “egregiously” violated the new rules. This is all in an effort to curtail some of the things going on surrounding NIL right now.

While I understand what they are trying to do, there is no way that the NCAA is going to be able to retroactively punish any team for violating a rule that was never made in the first place. It makes no sense whatsoever for any team to cooperate in any sort of investigation to that.

Once again, the NCAA is behind the eight-ball and is trying to fix something using a bad solution. This is not the first time they’ve done it and it won’t be the last. The good news is that no one within the Ohio State football program has done anything wrong, so they don’t need to worry about this.

The new rule is trying to get schools to disassociate with boosters, which will never happen. Look, I don’t pretend to know what the solution is but I know that this isn’t it. I don’t get paid millions of dollars to make these types of decisions. What I do know is that any program that gets hit with these penalties will sue the NCAA in a heartbeat.

It’s just another chapter in this saga that has gotten out of control. I’m not surprised by this development either and I bet none of you are either.
