The Ohio State basketball team needed a fresh set of faces on the roster this season after many players left for the NBA and the transfer portal. Chris Holtmann raced to find players that could help do that via the transfer portal. He found plenty of players to fill the void.

Holtmann brought in Tanner Holden, Sean McNeil, and Isaac Likekele as transfers through the portal. We know how much Holtmann loves the portal, but we also know how few of the transfers he’s brought in have made a real impact on the team when they’ve come in.

Which of these three players will make the biggest impact on the Ohio State basketball team this year? Of those three guys, I have to say Holden. I say Holden because he not only has the ability to score the ball and shoot at a high level, but he also rebounds and passes well too.

Holden will have a culture shock when he starts Big Ten play. His conference wasn’t exactly the highest level of competition when he was in the Horizon League. That being said, he did play some tough teams over this four-year career with Wright State and he played pretty well.

McNeil will certainly make an impact when it comes to shooting the ball. Likekele will make an impact on the defensive side of the ball and with his leadership. But only Holden can do multiple things at a high level. In my opinion, he’ll be the best transfer this year.

How well these transfers play will determine how good this Buckeye team can be. The Buckeyes will have plenty of pressure on them after falling short of expectations the last few years in the NCAA Tournament. All three of these guys are going to do their best to change that outcome.
