Ohio State Football needs a dominant defensive end
By Ryan Stano
For the last couple of seasons, the Ohio State football team hasn’t had a dominant defensive end. Everyone thought it was going to be Zach Harrison, but we know he is what he is at this point. Since Chase Young left, the Buckeyes haven’t had that guy that scares everyone.
This year with a new defensive scheme, the Buckeyes have a chance to change that. A dominant defensive end would help the rest of the defense in a big way. J.T. Tuimoloau is going to be the guy that plays a lot of defensive end in a down position because Jack Sawyer is going to be floating.
Therefore, it’s going to be up to JTT to be that dominant guy. He showed flashes of being able to do it last year. The problem was that he didn’t decide where he was going to school until July last year, so he was behind the eight ball almost immediately.
Now that he’s had a full year of college football under his belt, as well as a full offseason, he should be a much better player. He’s going to get a lot more snaps this season even if it is on a rotation basis. He is someone that offenses are going to have to account for.
Even if the dominant DE is someone other than JTT, the Ohio State football team is better when they have a guy that can truly rush the passer. It puts less pressure on the secondary and an inexperienced linebacker group. Having a guy like that also leads to more sacks.
Ohio State needs to have a guy like that to make this defense better than they were last year. Even an average defense makes this team a title contender.
