The Ohio State football team had a pretty good Spring Game. It was a decent crowd that watched the team play in pretty nice weather for mid-April. We got to see some of the new-look defense and see some offensive players make some plays. Unfortunately, we also saw an injury.

That injury was to defensive end Mitchell Melton. He was taken off the field in the second half due to that injury and did not play again. It looked like it was a non-contact injury when it happened, which can sometimes be very bad. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look good for him right now.

In fact, it looks bad enough that he could potentially miss this upcoming season according to Jim Knowles. While he didn’t delve into specifics when talking to the media today, he mentioned that it might be difficult for him to play this Fall due to the injury.

The sophomore hasn’t gotten much of a chance to make an impact on the field so far. For him to miss the 2022 season would be heartbreaking for him, especially since he suffered an injury last Spring that forced him to miss the entire 2021 season. The guy can’t catch a break.

We still have about six months until the start of the season so there’s hope he can recover to play at some point. We don’t know what the injury is exactly, but it sounds like a ligament could be torn if they are talking about him possibly missing the whole year.

Whatever the injury is, we hope Melton can have a speedy recovery. It sucks to have two full years of football taken away from you because of factors out of your control. If he does miss this year, hopefully he comes back stronger than ever next year.
