Ohio State Football: Two former Bucks sign UDFA deals
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program had six players drafted over the weekend during the 2022 NFL Draft. While those numbers were lower than expected, a couple of former Buckeyes have already found homes with new teams as undrafted free agents.
Haskell Garrett was someone who definitely should have been drafted. It was a shocker that he wasn’t in the first place. But you knew a team was going to find value in him and give him a chance to make the roster. That’s exactly what happened right after the draft.
Garrett signed a deal with the Titans as an undrafted free agent. He now has a chance to make the roster and make an impact with a defense that is one of the league’s best. He is also being coached by a former Buckeye coach in Mike Vrabel, who leads the Titans.
Garrett wasn’t the only former Ohio State football player to sign a deal shortly after the draft. Running back Master Teague was also signed to a deal. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Bears, so he won’t be going too far away from Columbus.
This was an interesting signing to me. Teague gets to reunite with Justin Fields in Chicago. Running backs can come from anywhere in the NFL, so Teague has a chance to steal some snaps if he can play well. I’m not sure he’s going to be able to, but anything is possible.
Other Buckeyes will surely get calls as the days go on as well. Ohio State produces a lot of talented players every single year and NFL teams know that. They will try to grab as much of that talent as they can, even if they end up just being training camp bodies.
