Ohio State football: Jeremy Ruckert headed to Jets
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program was hoping to have multiple players taken on Friday night. Nicholas Petit-Frere was taken earlier in the third round. He wasn’t the only one who was projected to be drafted on Friday night.
Tight end Jeremy Ruckert was projected to be drafted as well. It took awhile, but Ruckert was finally taken late in the third round by the New York Jets. He is the second Buckeye that the Jets took in this draft as they also took Garrett Wilson.
As far as the fit goes, Ruckert goes to a very young offensive team. Ruckert has a young quarterback throwing to him, a touchdown g receiver in Wilson on the outside, and a rookie running back in the backfield. It will certainly be a learning curve for him on how he can produce at the next level.
Ruckert might have the best hands of any tight end in this draft. He fell this far because the Ohio State football team didn’t use him enough. His production wasn’t shown enough on tape. Teams didn’t see him as a true difference maker as a tight end in college, which might be right.
It will be interesting to see how Ruckert does compared to the rest of the tight ends that were selected on front of him in this draft. He has the potential to be the best of the bunch as long as he has a quarterback who can throw to him when he’s open.
I’d expect Ruckert to have a really strong career with the Jets.
