Ohio State Football: How Garrett Wilson fits with Jets
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program knew that they were going to have two players taken in the first round of the NFL Draft tonight. The only thing that people weren’t sure of was the order, although that was pretty certain as well. Now, we know which one gets taken first.
Former Buckeye Garrett Wilson is the first of the two Ohio State receivers to get taken. He was actually the second receiver taken overall in this draft. Wilson becomes the first Ohio State receiver to be drafted in the first round since Ted Ginn Jr. and Anthony Gonzalez went in the first round in 2007.
Wilson got drafted 10th overall by the New York Jets. He is paired with the second overall pick from a year ago in Zach Wilson. Now it will be a Wilson to Wilson combination for the next 10 years or so. Wilson was only drafted behind Drake London in terms of wide receivers.
As far as the fit goes, Wilson is so good that he is going to make any team that he goes to better. His hands are ridiculous, his body control is insane, and he runs some great routes. What will help the Young Jets is Wilson’s ability to get a lot of yards after the catch as well.
Wilson gets to play in a big city for a young team that has some offensive pieces around. While Zach Wilson may not have had the best rookie year, I still think he can be a good quarterback if given the right pieces. Garrett Wilson is one of those right pieces in my opinion.
I would expect Wilson to have a long and illustrious career with the Jets. He’s too good not to and should have been the first receiver taken in this draft.
