Power Five schools loving Ohio State football transfers
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has had a number of players transfer out since the start of last season. Different players have transferred out for different reasons. Some wanted more playing time elsewhere while some wanted to move closer to home.
No matter what the reasons are, most of the players have transferred to other Power Five programs. Those programs are loving the influx of talent from Ohio State. Most of the kids that are transferring are former four or five-star recruits looking for a better situation.
When you have a program as successful as the Ohio State football program has been, that’s one of the hazards you deal with. Other programs will happily take players who are unhappy from your program. It’s almost like the Buckeyes have become a team to recruit from.
Former Buckeyes have been going to places like Texas, LSU, North Carolina, Florida, and USC. Those are some top football schools. You can bet that a couple more Buckeyes are likely to enter the transfer portal soon as well because the deadline to do so and still be eligible to play this season is May 2nd.
Ohio State is the type of program that has a lot of players go out but not a ton come in. They do have a couple of notable transfers this year, including Tanner McCalister and DeaMonte Trayanum, but not nearly as many players transfer into the program as they transfer out.
That’s because the Buckeyes do an excellent job of recruiting top talent out of high school and developing it in-house. They rarely need someone from another program to come in and help. There are always exceptions of course.
As long as Ohio State doesn’t lose any big-time contributors to the transfer portal, things will be just fine.
