The Ohio State football team has had a long list of studs on the defensive line. They recruit better than anyone else in the country with that defensive unit. Specifically, that’s true with the defensive end. Jacolbe Cowan thought that he was going to be the next stud.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to see the field much in his first two seasons with the Buckeyes. Cowan was originally a four-star prospect in the class of 2020. The problem for Cowan is that he had a lot of other great players in front of him and some great ones pass him too.

Cowan didn’t play at all in his freshman season. He only played in three games last season and recorded just three tackles in those games. Based on the depth chart for this upcoming season, he wasn’t in line to play much this year either. His time wasn’t going to come.

For those reasons, I can’t blame Cowan for wanting to leave. He should go somewhere where he can actually play. It’s players like him that I think the portal is a great thing. It allows someone who still has a lot of talent to go and play somewhere else immediately.

Cowan posted a message on Twitter confirming his decision to enter the portal.

I hope Cowan goes somewhere where he can realize his dreams of being a successful college football player. It just wasn’t going to happen with the Ohio State football program. That’s okay. He has nothing but love for the Buckeyes and the city of Columbus.

Next. Linebackers won't be much of a factor in new defense. dark

We wish Cowan nothing but the best in his future endeavors!
