If you want to get paid once you reach the NFL, you should play for the Ohio State football program. That has been proven time and time again. From Ezekiel Elliott to Joey Bosa to Michael Thomas, former Buckeyes keep getting big NFL contracts. Yet another one has landed a big one.

Denzel Ward is the next Buckeye to get paid a boatload of money. The 4th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft is now the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history after signing a contract extension. He was due for an extension and got the biggest one possible.

Ward signed a five-year $100.5 million extension today. He also gets $71.25 million in guaranteed money. That is the biggest deal that any corner has signed in NFL history. The Browns decided to keep their hometown product in the state and in the city.

If you don’t think that the Ohio State football program is going to use this in recruiting, you are wrong. The Buckeyes will certainly use this in recruiting pitches immediately. Ward has established himself as one of the best young corners in the entire league.

Ward is only 24 years old and has already shown he can be a lockdown guy. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl twice in four years. He also has 10 interceptions over that time period as well. The one issue with him has been availability because he’s been hurt a decent amount.

Ward has yet to play all 16 games in a season yet. He has missed a total of 12 games so far. If he can stay healthy, he could end up being the best cornerback in the league. Ohio State is clearly a good place to develop your skills before you head off to the next level.
