The Ohio State football team played their Spring Game today in an offense vs. defense format. There wasn’t a lot of tackling in the first few series, but there was after that. Once there was, we learned a lot more about this team on both sides of the ball.

Several things jumped out at me during this game. The first and best thing that jumped out at me was how good the defense played. They didn’t show their full arsenal today and was very vanilla and still looked good. That unit made a lot of plays.

Jordan Hancock was a player that jumped out on defense. He made several good plays in this game, including a nice pass defended and a tackle for loss on consecutive plays. He is in line to get a lot of time behind Denzel Burke and Cameron Brown at corner.

Jack Sawyer also looked good at that “Jack” position. It was good to see him move around the line of scrimmage and drop into coverage as well. He had a sack in the second half as well. I’m looking for big things from him this season.

On offense, Evan Pryor had himself a good day. He had a good run into the end zone when they started tackling that was really nice. He’s trying to get himself snaps ahead of Miyan Williams. That’s going to be a tough thing, but he looked really good today.

To no one’s surprise, Jaxon Smith-Njigba also had a good Spring Game. He had a touchdown early in the game and looked like he picked up right where he left off at the Rose Bowl. He’s going to have a huge year.

It was great to see the Ohio State football team out there playing. We won’t get to see it again for a few months, so it was fun to see it now.
