Ohio State Football: Spring Game won’t give us scheme answers
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has a new defensive scheme that the Buckeyes have never run before. It’s something unique that hasn’t been seen by Buckeye fans. Some fans were hoping to see their first glimpse of the new scheme and its tricks during tomorrow’s Spring Game.
Unfortunately, that won’t be happening. While there will be tackling in this year’s Spring Game, Ryan Day mentioned that the defense will be very basic on Saturday. That means we won’t see too many exotic things going on that might end up happening in the Fall.
What Buckeye fans will get is an answer to some early personnel questions. We will get to see who they think is the first-team defense right now. That’s something that is most intriguing for me to see. I want to know who they think the best linebackers are first of all.
With a format of offense vs. defense for this year’s Spring Game, I’m also interested to see how the backups on offense perform, mainly the quarterbacks. C.J. Stroud won’t be playing too long in this one, so I want to see how Kyle McCord and Devin Brown look right now.
I do want to see which defensive players are able to step up and make plays though. We have seen reports that the defense has been giving the offense fits at times so I want to see that in a stadium environment. I also want to see which individuals we can count on from the defense.
While Ohio State football fans won’t get their biggest question answered tomorrow, there will still be several things they will get answers to. It should be a fun day of football tomorrow that will give us all a lot of things to talk about and hope for.
