Ohio State Football Spring Game: Tribute to Dwayne Haskins revealed
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team will be playing their Spring Game this Saturday afternoon. We will get our first look at the 2022 Buckeyes and some new faces on both sides of the ball. Unfortunately, there will be a heaviness hanging in the air after the passing of Dwayne Haskins.
Haskins was tragically killed on Saturday while he was in South Florida working out with teammates. His loss has been felt by the Ohio State football community and the NFL community all week. His funeral is actually scheduled for this Saturday as well.
Ryan Day mentioned that there would be some sort of tribute to Haskins during the Spring Game, but he wasn’t sure what it would be at the time. Now we do know what the full extent of the tributes will be for the game and possibly beyond into the regular season.
All Buckeyes will wear “DH” decals on their helmets for the game. There will also be a moment of silence before the national anthem for him as well. Right before halftime, there will also be a video tribute. The memorial that has sprung up at the Shoe will remain there as well.
All of these things make perfect sense. I would expect the Buckeyes to wear the helmet decals the entire season. I would expect the memorial to possibly stay through the Spring semester until students go home as well, which would be at the end of April.
I think all of these things are an appropriate way to honor Dwayne Haskins. He will be in all of these guys’ thoughts throughout the entire season. The Buckeyes will want to play hard for him all season and win a national title in his honor. Playing a good, solid Spring Game is the first step on that journey.
