It’s mid-April and the Ohio State football team’s Spring Game is swiftly getting closer. It will be played this weekend on what should be a nice Spring day. It will be a good day of football and a somber day of remembrance as fans continue to mourn the passing of Dwayne Haskins.

On the football side of things, this will be our first look at the new version of the Buckeyes. We will get to see new faces on both sides of the ball as well as some old ones. One of the questions I’m looking forward to is which quarterback will win the backup job behind C.J. Stroud.

To that effect, how long will Stroud play on Saturday? He needs to play a little bit because he has to continue to build chemistry with some new offensive linemen as well as a new tight end. That shouldn’t take very long though, and there’s no need to risk any sort of fluky injury.

My guess is that Stroud plays three or four series. I’d be shocked if he was still playing into the second quarter. He’s one of the guys on offense that doesn’t need a ton of work. Playing that little amount of time will allow Kyle McCord and Devin Brown to get more work in too.

The work that McCord and Brown get in is going to be more important than Stroud’s work. They are fighting to win the backup job this year as well as being ahead in the starting job race next season. A good Spring Game is a good way to help both of those causes.

Day will do what’s best for his players and his offense. I’d be shocked if Stroud played any longer than 45 minutes into this game in real-time.
