This is the first moment that I think of when I think of Dwayne Haskins’ Ohio State football career. This was something that happened before Haskins was even a starter for the Buckeyes. He had this amazing moment when he was a backup to J.T. Barrett back in 2017.

Barrett got hurt pregame after running into a Michigan cameraman. He hurt his knee and ended up having to play on that injured knee for the majority of the game. He did have to leave after taking a hit midway through the third quarter. All of a sudden, it was Dwayne Haskins time.

Ohio State was down 20-14 when Haskins had to come in. On a 3rd and 13, Haskins delivered a bullet to Austin Mack to convert for a crucial first down. It was a phenomenal throw and an excellent catch as well. That was the key conversion on that drive.

Haskins also had a key run that put the ball at the two yard-line. after that conversion. The Buckeyes would eventually punch the ball in for a touchdown on that drive. Barrett would later come back in the game and help the Buckeyes beat TTUN once again.

That was the first introduction that the college football world had to Haskins. He’d only played in mop-up duty prior to that drive and he delivered. It was clear right then and there that he was ready to start the following year as long as he was able to beat out Joe Burrow.

Haskins’ second-best moment of his Ohio State career may not have been a great memory for a lot of Buckeye fans, but it was historical nonetheless.
