The Ohio State football team has prided itself on having depth on the roster. That is especially true at two specific positions; wide receiver and defensive line. The receiver room might be the most talented group of players in the entire country. Along the defensive line, the Buckeyes have players that need to show progress.

Ryan Day seems to think that the defensive line has a lot of depth to it now. Talking to reporters today at practice, Day beamed about the depth within that unit. If you take a look at the roster, he may have a reason to be excited, at least on paper with what this unit should be able to do.

Defensive end will showcase Zach Harrison, J.T. Tuimoloau, and Jack Sawyer. Tyler Friday might get some snaps there too now that he’s back healthy. While this is Harrison’s last shot, JTT and Sawyer should only get better now that they have a full collegiate season under their belts. Javontae Jean-Baptiste will see time too.

At defensive tackle, there is slightly more uncertainty. Mike Hall is looking to get more snaps as a redshirt freshman. Jerron Cage might be one of the starters, possibly next to Tyleik Williams. Noah Potter is big enough to play inside too, but that remains to be seen.

Day seems to think that the Ohio State football team is two or three-deep at some of these positions. I totally agree at defensive end. I’m a little more dubious regarding defensive tackle. Maybe the Spring Game next week will change my mind.

If Day is excited about the depth though, we all should be excited. This unit is going to have high expectations for what they do this season. Their success will drive the defense’s success as a whole.
