Former Ohio State basketball coach Thad Matta has been out of the spotlight for a while. He last coached for the Buckeyes back in the 2016-17 season. After that, he was let go and Chris Holtmann stepped in. Matta has interviewed for other jobs but hasn’t coached since.

Right now, Matta is the associate AD for Indiana University. He works closely with the men’s basketball team there. It seems like the perfect gig for him right now. He gets to stay close to the game of basketball without all of the stresses that go along with coaching a program.

But could Matta coach again? There is a perfect opportunity sitting out there for him right now. Butler decided to let go of Lavall Jordan today. That clears the way for the Bulldogs to hire someone who can help them get back to the program they once were.

Matta lives in Indianapolis and has obvious ties to that program with him previously coaching there. He had kids attend Butler as well. He still has great fondness for the university and knows how to recruit the area well. It would be the perfect situation for him.

The Ohio State basketball program hasn’t reached the same heights it did when Matta was leading the program. He says now that he is the healthiest he’s been in years. His health was the main reason why Ohio State had to depart ways with him. If he’s healthy now, he might be looking to get back into coaching.

Next. Ohio State will learn from adversity. dark

If he doesn’t take the Butler job now, I would say that he is done coaching forever. This is too perfect of an opportunity to pass up if you still have the itch to coach. I don’t have any inside information on this, but my guess is that he takes a good, hard look at this one.
