The Ohio State football team has several high-quality players who will be drafted in this year’s draft. They will be losing some high-quality players, including likely two first-round picks. Ohio State stocks up on talent every year, but they will miss some of these guys.

Which of them will they miss the most though? Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson will likely be first-round picks and were excellent receivers while they were with the Ohio State football program. Yet, I don’t think they are the players that the Buckeyes will miss the most this season.

I think the Buckeyes are going to miss Haskell Garrett the most. The defensive lineman was always at the right place at the right time, especially in 2020. Early in 2021 he made some plays too, including a fumble return for a touchdown in the opener.

While the defensive line underperformed as a whole last year, someone like Garrett is still a guy they’re going to miss. His mentality is something that is hard to replicate. He’s a guy that always seems to make plays when the Buckeyes needed it. Do they have that at defensive tackle now?

Tyleik Williams will likely start in his stead. While he had some bright moments as a freshman, he is not as good as Garrett is. The Buckeyes hope he can step in and develop into someone as good as Garrett in a couple of years, but I’m concerned about the middle of the defensive line.

The last Big Ten game we saw was Ohio State getting manhandled up front, especially in the run game. Garrett was a part of that crew getting beaten, but he was still the best they had. I think they will miss him early, but they should be able to play better later in non-conference play.
