Ohio State Football: Two former Buckeyes get deals
By Ryan Stano
Two former Ohio State football players have signed new deals in free agency with the teams they were just playing with.
There are Ohio State football players all over the NFL. Ohio State is an NFL factory, and that won’t be changing anytime soon. With free agency just now starting, those former Buckeyes are looking for some paydays and maybe even new teams. A couple of Buckeyes just recently signed deals.
One of them is safety Malik Hooker. Hooker signed a two-year deal with the Cowboys worth $8 million. Hooker spent last season with Dallas after spending the first four years of his career with the Colts after being drafted in the first round back in 2017.
Injuries are a big reason why the Colts let him go. Hooker just wasn’t able to stay on the field, so the Colts went in a different direction. Hooker played well enough with Dallas last year for them to want him to stay though, and hopefully he can stay injury-free.
Speaking of the Colts, that’s where another former Buckeye is returning. Tyquan Lewis is coming back to Indianapolis on a one-year deal with $3 million. Lewis was a second-round draft pick of the Colts back in 2018 and has spent his entire career with them.
Lewis was having the best year of his career until he blew out his knee after getting a turnover against the Titans. Injuries have plagued him as well. The deal gives Lewis a chance to prove that he can stay on the field and be an impact player when he does.
More Buckeyes will be signing free-agent deals as free agency continues. I’m sure we’ll have more to report on that as the month continues on before the Draft gets here in late April.
