Ohio State Football: How much more can C.J. Stroud improve?
By Ryan Stano
After a rough start as the starting quarterback for the Ohio State football team, C.J. Stroud played great down the stretch. How much more can he improve?
The Ohio State football team is set to have one of the best offenses in the country. With what the wide receiver room looks like plus TreVeyon Henderson in the backfield, this team will be dangerous. That includes C.J. Stroud behind center a year after he was a Heisman Finalist.
How much more can Stroud improve from such a great year? He played his best game of the season in the Rose Bowl when he threw for over 600 yards and 6 touchdowns against Utah. That’s a pretty hard act to improve upon in 2022.
One of the things Stroud can do better is run the ball. He really didn’t show any interest in taking off and running with it until late in the season. Even then, he hardly did it. Stroud isn’t fast, but at least being somewhat of a threat running the ball opens up this offense even further.
Stroud also can perform better late in games when the game is on the line. Because it was his first year on the field, he gets a bit of a pass on that. He needs to be great when the game is on the line and the Buckeyes need something good offensively. That’s more of a mental thing than anything else.
I would expect Stroud to be even better in 2022 from a statistical standpoint. He will be better early this season because now he has the experience that he lacked in 2021. I’d expect him to be a Heisman finalist again and he’s one of the favorites to win it too.
Stroud can elevate this Ohio State football team into a contender for a national championship with his play. Buckeye fans can expect him to do just that.
