The Ohio State football team doesn’t really have a tight end right now that has any experience except Cade Stover. But he wants to be at linebacker. Where should he play?

Cade Stover has played exactly one game at linebacker for the Ohio State football program. He did so in the Rose Bowl when the Buckeyes were short at that position due to injury. The depth just wasn’t there like it was at tight end, which Ohio State doesn’t use much anyway.

Stover mentioned that he wants to move to linebacker. Yet, he has played both sides of the ball during Spring practice. Ryan Day seems to want him to play tight end based on some of his comments. The Buckeyes also need a tight end with Jeremy Ruckert gone now.

Linebacker has more depth at it after this most recent recruiting class, specifically with five-star freshman C.J. Hicks coming in. Also, linebacker is less important in Jim Knowles’ defense. Because of that, it seems that Stover would make more sense at tight end.

Ohio State may not use the tight end position as much as Ryan Day has promised that they would in the past, but they still need one, specifically in the red zone. Ohio State needs to have some big bodies close to the end zone to throw to in play-action scenarios.

Stover is also the only tight end on the roster who really has any experience playing any sort of snaps. No one else has played in any big games at that position. That’s a problem when you have someone as good as Notre Dame in the very first game.

We’ll see what Stover and the coaching staff ultimately decide to do with his position as Spring practice keeps on rolling
