The Ohio State basketball team finished their regular season with a whimper, losing three of their final four games. They really haven’t shown any of the fans that they can put a serious run together once the NCAA Tournament starts, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t hope.

Ohio State’s best chance for a deep run is some true March Madness. What I mean by that is that when the Tournament starts, madness happens. Teams get upset by underdogs no one’s ever heard of. That happened to the Buckeyes last year when they lost to Oral Roberts.

Madness like that is the only way Ohio State has a prayer of advancing in this year’s Tournament. The Buckeyes are banged up right now and haven’t shown the ability to actually beat anyone who’s less talented than them, which is a problem heading into the tourney.

Ohio State basketball fans should still have hope for this team though. This is a team that still beat Duke, Wisconsin, Seton Hall, and Illinois. They have shown that they can beat teams of high quality when everything is clicking, and the NCAA Tournament is a whole other animal.

We’ll have to see what the draw is for the Buckeyes first, but maybe being a six-seed wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Depending on which side of the bracket they end up on, they could have some teams that also have major flaws that are higher seeds in their bracket.

Personally, I really like the scenario that Joe Lunardi has laid out for his Bracketology. If you take a look at what he has, I actually really like Ohio State’s projected side of the bracket. They could beat a lot of those teams, and a few upsets could give them the breaks they need to make a deep run.

dark. Next. Why hasn't Ohio State won a national title since 2014?

Selection Sunday is now just under a week away. Until then, we will see what the Buckeyes can do in the Big Ten Tournament.
